Ditch the Churros (Just for a Bit!): My Top 2 Madrid Summer Dessert Picks!

I know what you're thinking: "You must talk about churros!" And you'd be right, churros are practically a national monument. They're everywhere, they're glorious, and frankly, picking the "best" one is like trying to choose your favourite child – impossible and potentially leads to a family feud.

So, instead of wading into that delicious but dangerous debate, I'm here to enlighten you with two utterly brilliant, less-talked-about dessert gems that are PERFECT for beating that Spanish summer heat. Get ready for some honest-to-goodness sweet relief!

1. KALA Greek Frozen Yogurt: The Chill Out Champ 🇬🇷🍦

Greek feeling decor, image from Google Map

Remember when frozen yogurt was all the rage? Then it kind of... quietly faded into the background like that one friend who promises to show up but never does. Well, KALA Greek Frozen Yogurt is here to revive its glory, especially under the relentless Madrid sun!
Lots of topping available

Stepping into KALA is like stepping into a little slice of Greek heaven. The yogurt itself is, and I can't stress this enough, VERY YOGURT. It’s got that beautiful tangy kick that screams "refreshing" and practically whispers "healthy" (even if you load it up with toppings, which, let's be real, you will). And speaking of toppings, these aren't your sad, limp sprinkles. We're talking quality stuff here. The almond crumble? Crunchy, sweet, and just melts in your mouth. And the pistachio cream? It's bursting with flavour, and dangerously addictive.

Now, a little heads up for your wallet. This chill-out experience comes with a bit of a premium. We're talking €4.90 for a modest serving with two toppings. Is it a steal? Perhaps not. Is it worth it on a sweltering day when your soul is crying out for something cool and delicious? Absolutely. Think of it as an investment in your immediate happiness.

Rating:
  • Food: 4.5/5 (That pistachio cream almost pushed it to a perfect 5!)
  • Service: N/A (Quick transaction)
  • Decor: 4.5/5 (Clean, bright, and inviting – good vibes only.)
  • Value: 4/5 (Pricey, but you get what you pay for in quality.)
  • Overall: 4.5/5 (My new go-to for a healthy-ish indulgence.)

2. Álex Cordobés | Velázquez: The Cheesecake That Broke the Internet (and My Heart) 🇪🇸🍰

Amazing cheesecake

If you're on TikTok or Instagram, you've probably seen this bad boy popping up on your feed. Álex Cordobés' cheesecake has more hype than a new iPhone (recent) launch, and let me tell you, it's not misplaced.

Only a small queue at 10am

I dropped by early, around 10 am, thinking I'd beat the rush. There was already a small queue forming, but a mere 5-minute wait later, I was in. The shop itself is a work of art. Seriously, it's impeccably designed, with a minimalist yet somehow futuristic storefront that screams "I'm important, come buy my deliciousness." Even if you hadn't heard anything about it before, you'd be drawn in like a moth to a very stylish flame.

Best selling flavour

I went for two mini cheesecakes: the classic and the pistachio. And oh. My. Word. Both were utterly sensational. The flavour is incredibly rich, a deep, resonant cheesecake goodness that lingers. But the real game-changer? The texture. It's runny on the inside. Not quite molten, but definitely not your typical firm slice. It's unexpected, it's decadent, and it's what makes this cheesecake truly unique.
'Cool' fridge for cheesecake display

For me, the mini size was perfect. I could happily devour half in one sitting (don't judge, it was a long day of sightseeing) and save the rest for a delightful second round. If you're a serious cheesecake enthusiast or planning to share, then go for the large one. Just be prepared for the price tag. Two mini cheesecakes set me back a cool €32. Yes, you read that right. Thirty-two euros.

Is it expensive? Absolutely. Is it worth it if you're a cheesecake fiend and want to experience something truly special? Without a shadow of a doubt. This isn't just dessert; it's an experience.

Rating:
  • Food: 5/5 (Mind-blowing. I'm still dreaming about it.)
  • Service: N/A (Quick transaction, no table service.)
  • Decor: 5/5 (Aesthetic goals achieved.)
  • Value: 4/5 (High price, but for a truly exceptional product, I'll allow it.)
  • Overall: 5/5 (The hype is real. Get your runny cheesecake fix!)

So there you have it, folks! Two fantastic Madrid dessert options that go beyond the beloved churro. Next time you're sweating it out in the Spanish capital, give these a try.

Stay sweet, and happy eating!

🍜 Noodle Nova London- Beyond Chinatown's Gravitational Pull

When you're craving proper Chinese food in London, your brain immediately screams 'Chinatown!' and you're mentally bracing for the jam-packed street. But London's culinary map is expanding faster than my waistline after a day out. I was loitering around the Temple station area, pretending to be a fancy lawyer (didn't work, my shoes were too muddy), when my stomach issued an urgent demand for noodles. A quick search later, and I found myself staring at Noodle Nova, a new kid on the block that's doing Lanzhou beef noodles. The Vibe and the Broth Giant vase in the centre First impression: Nice décor. And true to its Chinese name, Qing Hua Yu (青花鈺), which means something like 'Porcelain Jade,' there was a rather large, fancy vase in the shop. Clearly, they've gone for aesthetic as well as noodle. Spicy broth taste good too but I prefer non-spicy one Now, onto the main event. As a specialist beef noodle joint, they offer a whole spectrum of noodle thi...

A Joy -Taipei's Highest (and Priciest) All-You-Can-Eat Truly Worth the Sky-High Bill?

When someone mentions "buffet," your mind probably conjures up images of lukewarm, vaguely-Chinese food trays and a general sense of regret. But hold onto your chopsticks, because East Asia’s buffet game is a completely different. We’re talking next-level quality, and prices to match. This time, Honest Bao scaled the ultimate peak in Taipei to review what might be the city's highest and most expensive buffet... and I'm here to tell you if it's the absolute best. Great view on Taipei city This place is seriously popular, so ditch your spontaneous dinner plans. You must book in advance, and here's a cheeky little catch for you international travellers: they tend to charge foreigners a tad more since you typically have to use a booking agent like Klook to snag a spot. Once you're in, though, prepare to be impressed. The restaurant sprawls across the entire floor, and the variety of food is absolutely monumental—it easily dwarfs any buffet spread I've enco...

Barcelona's Best-Kept Secret? Finding High-Quality Sushi at Sato I Tanaka

As a big city and famous for seafood, it's no surprise that Barcelona has some quality Japanese restaurants. It seems people are really crazy for them here too, as I really struggled to find any online availability when I tried to make a reservation. They are definitely busy, but not 100% full every day. Stay until the end of the post for a little tip to secure a table. Good quality tuna from Spain Sato I Tanaka, a small, unassuming spot that promised an omakase experience for less than the price of a flight to Japan. The moment I walked in, I felt like I was back to Japan. A long, elegant wooden counter, the quiet clatter of knives, and a chef who looked like he knew his way around a fish. This was the real deal. Love the red prawn We went for the lunch tasting menu, and at under 50 euros, my expectations were set to "cautiously optimistic." I mean, I've paid more for a sad-looking sushi platter in London. But what arrived was pure magic. The rice was  perfectly seas...
